How to measure your child's feet

All you need is a sheet of paper, a pencil, a ruler and a wall.

   Get set up

   Tape a sheet of paper to a hard floor with one edge flush against a wall. Have your child wear the socks they'll wear with the shoes, or measure barefoot.

   Stand tall

   Ask your child to stand on the paper with their heel touching the wall and their weight spread evenly across both feet. Standing (not sitting) gives a true, weight-bearing length.

   Mark the longest toe

   Mark the paper at the tip of the longest toe — this isn't always the big toe. Keep the pencil upright for an accurate mark.

   Measure both feet

   Repeat for the other foot. Children's feet are often slightly different sizes, so measure each one.

   Measure the length

   Measure in millimetres from the wall edge to the longest toe mark on each foot. Use the larger of the two measurements.

   Find the size

   Match your measurement to the chart below. If it falls between two sizes, choose the larger size for a comfortable fit.
